Comfort Food

I wish I could say I've given up reading for pleasure to focus on Human Organ Systems. Unfortunately, I've just reverted to binging on sweets. Full disclosure in the interests of honesty: three old Martha Grimes mysteries (The Man With a Load of Mischief, The Anodyne Necklace, and The Old Contemptibles). Michael Crichton's Sphere (very mediocre). J. K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them, and Jane Yolen's Wizard's Hall (both darling). Just think of how much knowledge I could have been gaining. So it goes.

I always revert to HP Lovecraft and William Gibson when I do comfort reading.

I have shades and gradations of comfort reading. Sick = tolkien. Tired = detective fiction or juvenile fiction. Depressed = douglas adams. Lazy/relaxed= sci fi. It also depends if I'm looking for homeopathic or allopathic reading cures. Have been known to mix and match remedies.

So that puts you in both the "relaxed" and the "tired" categories now... a rare mix. I like the homeopathic/allopathic description, it reminds me of Dr. House asking "is it an embolic bus or a thrombolic bus?"

see, this binge spanned pre/post test (tired) and wasting my weekend instead of studying (relaxed).
